Buffdaddys HvZ Adventures

Buffdaddys HvZ Adventures

It’s been an enjoyable few months! I managed to squeeze in a few HvZ games despite my busy schedule and appointments. Less than Id like (I missed both the BGSU and Ohio University Invitationals), but enough to keep me on my toes!

New Paltz

It was a long journey from Ohio that took almost an entire day. Granted, I made more than a few stops at thrift stores, Walmarts, and regional stores that arent in Ohio. It’s still the furthest I have ever driven to any Nerf War event or HvZ event, including my Canada trips.

I made this trip mainly to meet many fellow players Ive talked to online. All that and personal connections. Big thanks to Dennis, one of the New Paltz crew, for letting me crash at his place for two nights.

Time travel was the theme of this year’s HvZ events. Our missions had us traveling further back in time as the day progressed, with missions varying between scavenging and escorting. For ease of packing and use, I ended up playing with a Boomco Flipbow and a Burstwave. Good blasters, great ammo density, and a shotgun burst when needed. I made it most of the way, until the beginning of the last mission in ancient Egypt. Although the humans were able to fall quickly, it was possible that cold temperatures played a role (GO INSIDE! WARMER TEMPERATURES NOW!). We were ready to end it after the Roman era mission anyway

Youngstown State University

This was a great one. YSU hosted a Game of Thrones Survivalal, where we were divided into three factions (Stark Targaryen and Lannister), and fought for control of areas of central campus at various points of the day. All the areas that we held were awarded gold, which could be used to buy human goodies and other such things. Partway through the day, after a disastrous wedding which spawned zombies, the factions had to fight both each other and the zombies. So the day ended up being part Nerf War/King of the Hill, part HvZ, and it worked quite well.

The night missions before the main event (which were mainly for fun, aside from the BFG), I ran around with a Buzz Bee Boss and a bunch of twelve dart mega clips. I ran my Captain America Fraudulus for most of the day until it stopped working.

It was a simple issue to fix, so I ran as a sock-ninja to defeat the boss zombie.

For the finale, I opted to run my Flipbow for the accuracy and the ammo density. It was a smart decision, as I shot more than 250 Boomco darts in that time. Almost the last human, but I paused in one place for two seconds too long.

It was a blast, especially since part of the New Paltz crew made the drive to Ohio!

OSU Invitational

I dont have any good pictures or footage, sadly, but it was a great time. The theme was saving rock and roll, as Adam Levine was going through time and trying to destroy good music. We had to reunite the Beatles and avoid Yoko Ono as our boss, get Elvis to perform (which we failed miserably), then do minigames against zombies (TANK-BOP-IT!). We are.

Partway through, I earned the Vanguard ability. Essentially, I had a short foam noodle sword for tagging zombies. I could also snap a glowstick to be invulnerable for thirty second each mission. This was most useful in the finale when only a few humans were left. Half a second before I was caught, I snapped the glowstick, started counting out loud to thirty, and began tagging almost the entire horde. Then I died shortly after. But it was at least a valiant death.

My Flipbow was used throughout the day. I have become very comfortable with it. It was crazy how many zombie I made good shots on right as they were respawning. There were many headshots taken.

I was able to get the award for best human, if anything. It was a potato.
